MIA BLOGS + BLOGGING IMPACT

Monday, August 20, 2018

I went through a list of blogs I had been following since the beginning of my blogging journey on Simply Me. 207 blogs to be exact. That's 207 peoples words that have impacted me and made me a better version of myself at some point in the last four years. Yours is most likely to be on that list and I started to delete some of the blogs that have gone MIA from my reading list. Some of these bloggers just stopped blogging, or moved to a different blog, or decided they didn't have time for blogging or weren't inspired.

I decided that if someone had announced they weren't blogging anymore or had stopped blogging in 2016 to early 2017 I would delete their blog from my GBF list. I really hope they don't decide to pop in after all that time because I'll miss that message now. I only follow 97 active blogs now. That's about half of the bloggers I follow that are blogging.

It was kind of disheartening to see so many blogs dropping off the face of the earth. It's not so much about the blog going but the person and their words. I remembered some of these words so well and others not so much but I know on those MIA blogs were filled with words I've read and commented on.

It kind of struck me again that BLOGGING IS A CHALLENGE. Only half the people on my list are still blogging. Blogging isn't for everyone and it's not easy but it's so rewarding and I want to take a little time to congratulate you as a blogger!! You've made it and I hope you continue to blog! Have some ice cream with me. *hands you your favorite ice cream flavor* To us because we are impacting people, helping ourselves and doing something that makes us happy.

I was journaling recently and the entry started off with me reflecting on last years completed journal and took a turn ending about how blogging has impacted me. "I've been inspired by blogging to love words, share thoughts, put feelings into words, read, have stronger faith, be a better person, love myself more, and much much more. All because of the lovely people I share a part of the interweb with."

Blogging has helped shaped me as a person.  It's helped me reflect on the harder times in my life and learn new things through other passionate people who love sharing their thoughts. Everything about blogging is dear to me.

YOU'VE IMPACTED ME. As a reader of my words, a blogger of their own site, and the writer of this site. I want to thank you for sticking around. Let's hope for many more astonishing posts, more love, and inspiration.

The MIA blogs will be missed. This mini journey has been bittersweet!

  1. I'm always sad when one of my favorite bloggers just disappears. It is hard to keep up with a times, but think it's worth the hassle in the end. I get inspired by your blog, I like that you blog about a variety of things. Your journals and poems are always beautiful too!

  2. Wow. This like really hit me. Because I've done the same thing before -- I've gone from following SO MANY beautiful people to just a handful. Not because I didn't like them but because they hadn't updated their blog in months, or even years. It's crazy. Blogging is hard. But it's one of the things I make priority in my life. I don't think I could ever stop... Thank you for this reminder to reflect. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for being your awesome self. :)

    1. I'm not the only one who does it? THAT'S GOOD TO HEAR. I think life can really get in the way of blogging. I mean I can't even begin to imagine all the reasons one would stop blogging.GIRL KEEP BLOGGING! I enjoy your blog so much! Thank you for being you as well! <3

  3. I definitely feel you there. Some of my favorite blogs have gone MIA and it's so sad! (Still waiting for Katie Grace to come back.....) I’m glad you're still blogging, though! Blogging IS a challenge, isn’t it? I have difficulty keeping up with posting every week, personally!

Great post! Definitely feel you on this!

    1. But isn't it so wonderful that you can get attached to the words they write and the person they are via their blog! I think that's amazing. I KNOWWW! It's often times hard for me to keep up with the once a week post too! I use to blog 6-10 times a month and OH BOY I don't know how I did that. Keep it up Nicole!

  4. A. What does MIA mean? B. I hope if you read my blog off and on you like it, and any feedback on what i could improve would be welcome. C. Blogging can be hard, but it depends on what you are doing. I'm a last of a dying breed poetry blogger and pour my heart out from my mind to the laptop. People like me, our main issue is inspiration. If I lack Inspiration it makes it harder for me throw down another post. Anyways, you are a awesome blogger. Keep up the good work V!!!

  6. It is sad to lose bloggers. I miss some people's words too and wish they'd come back. But you're right, it takes effort and commitment, and sometimes life changes and blogging no longer fits it.

I'm glad you've stuck around though. :) God willing, I will too. And thank YOU for all your input and amazingness - it has made an impact on me. Isn't it crazy cool that in this small way, bloggers are changing the world?! xx

  7. *clinks ice cream against yours* TO US! We definitely deserve it. <3 I relate to this post so much because I once went through a huge unfollowing spree and it gave me such a nostalgic feeling to see that the blogs I was following hadn't been updated in YEARS. Sometimes their recent posts will say a little goodbye and other times, there won't be anything aside from what they plan on doing next for their blog. It makes me sad but I've gone down that similar road before. I was on and off with blogging, only doing it when I felt like it for a couple years. Now, I've really stuck to it. I can actually consider myself a blogger unlike before, when I didn't really know if I could do so. I wouldn't be the person I am today without blogging. It keeps me on track. It makes me feel like I can actually change the world, or be a better me. If this makes sense... I actually feel more sane with it. I love being able to express my creativity and be part of a lovely community. As crazy as life gets, I don't think I could live without it. <3

Thank you for writing this, Vanessa.

    1. We do deserve it! I love hearing that so many of my readers can relate to this post. I guess going through the list of blogs we follow is more common to do than I thought it was! NOSTALGIC FEELS. Yes. That's what I was going through too when I was looking through everyone's blogs. YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A LEGITIMATE BLOGGER IN MY EYES. The fact that blogging can keep you sane and provide you with a sense of belonging is the best thing ever. <3

  8. I've said it once and I'll say it again; blogging changed my life. it did. it sounds super dramatic but like...I wouldnt be the person I am today if I had not asked my mom what a blog was when I was in middle school. I love the community and I love being able to empower others with my words and feel like I can have a say in the dialogue that's happening in the world. it makes me feel like my voice is heard. that it matters.

but I regularly go on unfollowing binges. it is pretty sad. Ive been here since middle school and Im not going into senior year of college. so you can only imagine all the blogs Ive seen die. lol. but the cool thing is, most of the good friends I made in the early stages still kept in touch after they finished blogging. so the friends that are true and deep will always stick around.

It's so awesome that you've keep up with blogging for so long faith. You definitely have a say and impact in the world!! So glad you've kept in contact with friends and that you can see the positives with everyone moving on and doing other things. I'm glad to have you as a part of the blogging community!
